Bio

Willy Karekezi, a self-taught conceptual artist based in Rwanda, is the founder of Indiba Arts Space and co-founder of the Local Motif. His artistic endeavors are fueled by a profound commitment to social and political engagement. Willy employs various mediums, including paintings, sculptures, installations, and public art, as vehicles for his expression. Believing in the boundless nature of art, Willy sees it as a powerful means to transcend boundaries and convey narratives to society. His overarching goal is to share personal realities and the collective experiences of individuals, fostering dialogue and contributing meaningfully to communities.

Beyond the realm of art, Willy engages in educational programs and collaborative initiatives within refugee camps in Rwanda and Uganda, providing both financial and emotional support through workshops, exhibitions, and installations. He has collaborated with renowned organizations such as the Moleskine Foundation, American Refugee Committee, UNHCR, European Youth Exchange Project, and Kinderfreunde Austria.
